Golf

Golf, like any other sport, has specific dress norms. This boils down to the fact that you must choose the best clothes when you decide on your attire. Golf courses differ in many areas including their accepted dress code so make sure you are aware of this before you begin as it will help you enjoy the experience more. This is an important aspect of golf and cannot be dismissed with many clubs refusing to allow people to play if they are incorrectly dressed. It would not look good to turn up to play and then be turned away so be aware of what is expected of you.

Several things about men and boys are unwelcome on the golf course. The two most universal are concerned with shirts - any shirt worn by a player must have a collar and sleeves. Another area that is a no-no is the use of running pants and shoes that have metal studs. Avoid wearing clothes with repulsive logos or obscene messages on them. Moreover, sporting jeans or sandals are prohibited and this applies to women too.

Appropriate dress for men on the golf course tends to be either fitted pants or shorts, golf or athletic shoes and a shirt with a collar. Your shoes ought to have soft spikes and metal spikes are not allowed in many golf courses, as they tend to damage the turf. Shirts can be either long sleeve or short sleeve and can also include having a turtleneck or pull over sweater. Trainer socks cannot be worn - they must be of normal length and not contain garish logos so plain is better.

For women playing golf, fitting shirts and skirts and even Capri’s are allowed. No kinds of trousers including jeans shorts are allowed for women. For women, the length of the skirt or short is important and they ought to be cautious that these do not go up more than 5 inches above the knee. However each golf course is guided by its own specific rules and guidelines in the matter. Women are also supposed to wear shirts with collars unless they have put on a pullover with a V-style neck design.

However, a woman can wear a shirt that is completely sleeveless or have short sleeved (providing it has a collar). Other types of clothing that is allowed is socks that are at least ankle length, appropriate athletic or golf shoes and a visor or hat. The rules regarding socks for men are the same for women - so nothing garish. When taking along a guest to play alongside you, the same regulations apply - there are no exceptions because they are a guest. You would be wise to check out the rules on dress before you go along to your first round by phoning them or looking for their rules on the club website.
